Things To Do
So much to do and so little time.......

Los Ranchos de Albuquerque runs along the Rio Grande Bosque providing a variety of outdoor activities for the whole family in a beautiful nature filled setting with the Sandia Mountains always in view.

Not exactly the athletic type? How about an afternoon hunting for that special object d'art or antique heirloom, then taking a relaxing massage or mud bath break with a wine tasting finale?

Kids getting antsy? If touring the area to spot interesting animals (llamas, goats, peacocks, Canadian Geese) isn't enough, try Planet Fun, our premier kid's place.

Hiking/Bicycling/Rollerblading -There are wonderful trails along the Rio Grande (both dirt and asphalt) for outdoor activities of all kinds. The bike trails connect with many city trails allowing for long distance or short scenic biking. Rio Grande Boulevard is a favorite roadway for bikers who want to take in all the sights along our beautiful road. You can rent bicycles at nearby Rio Mountainsport (1210 Rio Grande Blvd NW, 505-766-9970).

Hikers (or bikers) can start at the Rio Grande Nature Center (Candelaria) with an informative tour and go all the way to Alameda Blvd. Wildlife and botanical delights are abundant. We also have numerous acequias and ditch banks running through the Village to keep your scenery interesting. And don't forget the jogging paths at Hartnett Park next to the Village Hall.

Horseback Riding - Horses are everywhere in the Village and are allowed not only on the trails described above, but share our roadways. Our speed limits on Rio Grande and Guadalupe Trail are lower than our neighbors to allow for safe travel by everyone. We also have several stables and horseback riding schools offering Summer Day Camps, riding lessons and fun activities for all. Try Liz Sanchez Training Stable at 7622 Rio Grande Blvd. NW (505-898-1810) or Elenor Fontana at 505-898-0440.

Fishing - The Rio Grande is stocked several times a year by the New Mexico Department of Fish and Game. Rainbow Trout is one of the possible catches of the day.

Tennis/Handball/Park - Immediately south of the Village Hall complex (6718 Rio Grande Blvd. NW ) lies Hartnett Park, a fully developed facility comprising four acres. Open until dusk, this park incorporates a playground, tennis courts, indoor handball court, and a jogging/pedestrian trail. All are available to the public on a first come - first serve basis. As several soccer teams practice here, you may be able to catch a game sometime. No alcoholic beverages are allowed.

Growers' Market- Los Ranchos has an active Summer and Winter Market providing locally grown produce, flowers, and other goodies. It is located at 6718 Rio Grande Boulevard (tennis court parking lot North of Chavez). The Winter Market is held the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10AM to Noon (Dec thru April). The Summer Market is held every Saturday morning from 7AM to 11AM starting mid-May. For more information, check out Ongoing Events.

Los Poblanos Field - Rio Grande Community Farms is a nonprofit organization farming two parcels of City Open Space land to benefit wildlife and people in an urban farm setting. The farm at Los Poblanos Field (formerly Anderson Field near Montano), is 140 acres and includes a mix of wildlife crops, alfalfa, corn, and mixed vegetables. A school garden is located at the northern edge of the field and a community garden is located on the southern end).
